Steven Schnurman has been teaching professional and aspiring professional singers his distinctive vocal technique for over 30 years. His reputation as a world-class singing teacher has attracted students who are award-winning Broadway and Operatic singers, well-known pop and folk singers, cabaret singers, band leaders, as well as aspiring beginners.
Steven graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the esteemed voice teacher Beverley Johnson, who also trained many great singers, including the world-renowned opera singer, Renee Fleming.
Mr. Schnurman was the recipient of both the prestigious Herbert W Weinstock and Arthur Ross awards and his teaching methods have been universally lauded by industry professionals.
For years, Steven also served as lead voice teacher at The Masterworks Festival, teaching talented conservatory students from all over the United States and other countries. At Masterworks, he also taught professional opera singers who had sung at such international companies as the Metropolitan Opera and the Sydney Opera House. When these singers experienced the vocal technique that Steven offered, many of them commuted from across the United States to continue studying, after the festival ended. Others permanently moved closer in order to study with him. In Steven, they saw a level of vocal technique that they hadn’t ever experienced before, and they knew they needed it to grow to the next level. Nowadays, with new technologies, students don’t have to travel to study with him, they can take lessons from the comfort of their homes, no matter where they live. This has extended Steven’s reach to teach successfully across the world.
Steven is known as “the teacher’s teacher” because over the years, using his own unique methods and techniques, he has trained and encouraged many talented students who have gone on to become excellent teachers in their own right.
For those who wish to study this great vocal technique and wish to study with him but live far from his studios or outside the United States, Mr Schnurman is now pleased to offer those very same methods and techniques internationally. He has been teaching over the internet for several years, with great success in interactive, one-on-one real-time voice lessons via video chat such as SKYPE, FaceTime and Zoom.
